Traveling To Hawai’i During Covid-19

Update:

The Hawaii State Travel Program has been abandon for now, so you do not need to register to come to Hawai’i. Also, mask mandate was lifted not long after, although a lot of residents and visitors still prefer to use masks. As a result of this the number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing and many believe the numbers that have been reported are not accurate numbers because many have at home Covid-19 tests that were issued out from the government. Just in case they made any changed within the last few minutes (just kidding) check the Hawai’i Government website before booking your flight.

So just a heads up we are really busy here and you should book your trips and tours early before your arrival. Too many I have seen come in asking if there were lodging or tours available and most places are full.

It is recommended by the CDC that staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting Covid-19. Although if you do decide to travel there are questions to ask yourself.

  • Is Covid-19 spreading in the area you are visiting?
  • Is Covid-19 spreading in my community and will I bring it to areas I’m visiting?
  • Is my airline using the 6 feet social distancing requirements during my flight?
  • Is my family members more likely to get really ill from being exposed if I get infected during travel?
    • Do they have a heart condition, cancer, any autoimmune condition?
    • Are they older or very young?
  • Does my destination require a 14 day quarantine period?
  • Will my local government require me to quarantine when I get back?
    • Do I have enough vacation time to stay away from work that long?
  • Can I afford it if I or my family gets sick?
  • Is it really worth the risk to myself or others to travel at this time?

After all these questions you do decide to travel there are a lot of things to think about when you travel. Make sure you make a list so there are no surprises when you get there.

First, you need lodging. A lot of hotels are closed at this time to keep their patrons and employees safe. If you do find an open one, are they cleaning your room following the CDC guidelines?

Second, will you need a rental car? Check with the area you are visiting there may be some restrictions like not being allowed to rent to you until your quarantine is complete.

Ok, the most important part of any trip is the FOOD. Make sure you check on your favorite places to eat before you leave, some of my favorite food places has closed because of the impact Covid-19 has had on our community.

When your destination has a 14-day quarantine like Hawaii. You should look into delivery services

If you are one of the many affected financially by Covid-19 I’d recommend being a driver. I’ve had a great time meeting new people shopping for InstaCart and appreciate those that were using the service to protect their communities.
